I've been searching for a job the last two years, but there is no great need for arts and crafts teachers these days. The last ten years the practical professions have had a lack of priority, mainly politically, through the focus on mathematics, science and language. It all comes down to less students and a lesser need for teachers. A very nice thing to find out when you have finished a bachelor in arts and crafts with pedagogy.
This spring I got a chance to be a substitute at a high school, teaching sewing. The same school now want me to work 50% for some months in the autumn. And I'm so happy!
I will work together with one of my former fellow students, it will be great, because we work good together. We will teach subjects about techniques and materials. A bit anxious, since this will be one of my first really serious jobs. And the scary part is that I'm a teacher and it's a group of students that depends on me. The challenge is on!
The thing I'm a bit sad about is that if I hadn't had the chance to be a substitute in the spring I would not have been called. When your experience isn't enough, but you need contacts on the inside to get a job, it does not feel right.
The whole thing is a game, and I'm very glad I won this round!
Sincerely
Mrs von Kvenna
