First sashiko embroidery attempt

I've done my first attempt on sashiko embroidery. I used a scrap of denim and some perle embroidery thread. The combination is very tough to work with and this shows on the result.

In the picture above you can see how uneven it is. It's two reasons why it's this uneven. One: wrong combination of materials. Two: I'm inexperienced in this technique.

What I did learn was that it became more even as I worked with it, and that's me gaining experience.

I worked from the backside of the piece. To mark the pattern, I draw on vlieseline which was ironed on to the back. Then I embroidered, looking on the right side now and then to check if it looked nice.

It is many things I have to work with in the future. Spacing between the stitches are a main focus, but also turning and tension. All this and a little patience will do some wonders to my later embroideries.

Now more work.
